SafeWaste lid latches
Sorell Council provides these free for residents, and you can pick them up from the Sorell Chambers. The lid latch does need to be reset each time the bin is emptied, but it’s very easy to install. Most people say it works almost every time, though a few have mentioned that it can occasionally run into a minor issue. Link to their website HERE.
Litterlock
You can purchase these devices from Sorell Council for $20. They do require a drill for installation, but the process is fairly straightforward. By all accounts they work extremely well, and they’re set-and-forget and once installed, there’s nothing more you need to do. Link to their website HERE.

We installed a Litterlock bin latch on a local residents bin to see how it worked and how easy it is to install. Installed it was quite easy and early feedback is that it worked really!

11 residents throughout the Sorell municipality trialled the use of SafeWaste lid latches.
We’ve received great feedback from residents saying the bin latches have worked really well in preventing rubbish from spilling during high winds.
Sorell Council have made these bin latches available to the public for free. Simply drop by Council chambers and request them. If you can’t make it down to council chambers then please send me a message and I will assist.

I provided 11 residents with a SafeWaste lid latches to trial the use of it so we can report back to residents.

Litter from overturned bins was identified as an issue when I asked residents for ideas that could improve our community.
After speaking to the Sorell Council they are two devices (bin latches) that attach to your bin that prevents the lid from opening if tipped over but also does not inhibit the operations (e.g. bins getting picked up)
