Sorell and Midway Point are among the fastest growing regions in Tasmania, which makes it important that local infrastructure and facilities keep pace with population growth. That’s why I’ve started a petition calling on Sorell Council to conduct a detailed feasibility study into a Council operated indoor public swimming pool and aquatic centre in Sorell.
A public indoor swimming pool would support community health and wellbeing, improve water safety skills, provide low impact exercise for all ages, and create a safe supervised space for young people. It would also help reduce social isolation, support mental health, and strengthen community connections.
The study should consider future population growth, potential locations, opportunities to offset operating costs such as rooms for physiotherapists and GPs, and State and Federal funding opportunities.
