Current situation
- Snake Hollow Park is a much loved local park in Carlton, but it currently lacks basic amenities such as public toilets and play equipment suitable for younger children. This limits how often families can use the space and who can comfortably enjoy it.
The issue
- Many local parents are forced to drive to Boat Park in Dodges Ferry to access a park with appropriate facilities for small children.
- At the same time, recent cash contributions from local subdivision developments are absorbed into Sorell Council’s general budget rather than being clearly reinvested back into the neighbourhoods where the growth is occurring.
My plan
- Funds received from local subdivision developments will be directed toward upgrading Snake Hollow Park.
- Council will run a community survey and hold two public meetings in the park to understand how residents want the space improved and to ensure upgrades fit within the available budget.
- Park upgrades will then be delivered based on clear community feedback and priorities.
The benefits
- Families with young children will have a safe, well equipped local park they can walk or cycle to instead of needing to drive elsewhere.
- Investment from local development will visibly benefit the community most impacted by growth, improving trust and transparency in council decision making.
- Community led design will ensure upgrades reflect how residents actually use the park, leading to better outcomes and stronger local ownership.
- Improved amenities such as toilets and play equipment will encourage longer visits, more social interaction, and increased use of the park by people of all ages.
- A better quality park will enhance the liveability and attractiveness of Carlton for current residents and future families.
