East coast traffic using Wielangta Rd

Summary

Many tourists become lost when they attempt to drive from the Tasman Peninsula to Orford. Their GPS chooses the route with the shortest distance which directs them through Wielangta Rd. They are reach the intersection of Kellevie Rd and Bream Creek road they often find themselves lost and without reception. I am investigating ways this situation can be avoided as it adds a significant amount of traffic to local roads.

New sign

I sent an email to the Sorell Council to suggest a new sign at the corner of Kellevie and Bream Creek Roads. This was suggested by a local resident. See below.

Google Maps

After reviewing the comments from the video I posted in the local community group, I have requested that google maps prioritise the route through Sorell when driving from the Tasman Peninsula to Orford.

Attempt 1 - It was no accepted.

Attempt 2 - Still pending

Delivered letter to impacted residents

I delivered a letter to impacted residents with an update on this issue and asking if they would like google maps to put warnings on the route through Wielangta Rd. You can find the letter HERE

Spoke to State Roads

I spoke to state roads and they stated that signage was sufficient. They declined to add extra signage.

Spoke to Sorell Council

Sent a letter to Council notifying them of issues in relation to east coast traffic using Wielangta Rd and request for investigation and possible signage upgrades. Read the letter here. Council declined to add extra signage due to the risk that it may confuse some drivers however I felt they did not investigation this issue in full.
