Having open, respectful conversations with friends, family and neighbours is at the heart of a strong community and it is also the foundation of my campaign for Mayor and Councillor of Sorell.
But these conversations are not always easy. Talking about local issues, listening to different views and finding common ground takes practice.
That is why I am running Community Conversation Training on Sunday 22 February at 3pm. This session is designed to give people the confidence and practical skills to have open, friendly conversations with residents about local issues, understand different perspectives, and work together on ideas that can improve life in our neighbourhoods.
Local residents are experts in their own backyard. When we take the time to listen and genuinely understand their experiences, we can better reflect those voices in Council decision making and in advocacy to State and Federal Governments.
In this training, you will learn how to start conversations, ask thoughtful questions, listen without judgement and find shared values. This is not about convincing people or pushing a particular position. It is about building connection, strengthening trust and finding a way forward together.
These skills are valuable for everyday life and will also support people who work in the community, are involved in local advocacy, or are helping with doorknocking and community engagement as part of my campaign.
The more conversations you have like this, the more you realise how much we all have in common.
